Citizen Cope “Bullet & a Target”

Been a while since we’ve had a Little Ditty.

Enjoy this awesome pie of live Citizen Cope performance, “Bullet & A Target”

With lyrics deserving to be quoted in entirety.

“Bullet And A Target”

Mr. Dali Lamas
Another sister’s shootin’ heroin tomorrow
Amputees in Freetown
Sierra Leone’s
The church wasn’t honest
The state put the youth in a harness
Creatin’ hostility among us
Teacher said no college
Still the kid’s gotta get a check with a couple commas
People wanna bomb us
More people gotta scatter and run from us
You can blame it on Zeus and Apollo and AdonisBut what you’ve done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won’t be long before
You’re pulling yourself away

But what you’ve done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won’t be long before
You’re pulling yourself away

I’ve been knowing her for years
I’ve been seeing her for years
She got dark, dark wavy hair
With a voice like she just don’t care
She got a skirt with a halter top
She’s got a dad who never gave a fuck
She drinks a beer with a malted top
She got knocked up in a pickup truck
But she got engaged when she was nineteen
To this dude who was acting insane
Had a .45 that he always cleaned
Said one day one day one too many days
Now she ducked and she ran away
Never to be heard from, never to be seen
I check the cover of a magazine
I’m just wondering how, just wondering how

But what you’ve done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won’t be long before
You’re pulling yourself away

A bullet and a target

Between a bullet and a target

I Was Scared

A Stereogum Little Ditty with Rivers Cuomo

‘I Was Scared’

I was scared,

I was terrified

I was lost

And so I shied away

I promise

That ill never ever do

That thing i did that day when acted like a fool

I might get my ass beat

My throat slit and my fingers hacked

But ill never miss another chance to watch my brothers back

Forever For Her (Is Over for Me)

“I blew it..

And if I knew what to do, then I’d do it
But the point that I have, I’ll get to it

And forever for her is over for me

Forever, just the word that she said that means never
To be with another together
And with the weight of a feather it tore into me

Then I knew it
All the work that it took to get through it
On the wings of a feather that flew it
Fell onto my shoe it cut up into me”

The White Stripes Cover ‘I’ve Been Lovin’ You Too Long’

A Mini Little Ditty from The White Stripes Rarities

It’s … FRIDAY!

“Sometimes I feel so lonely
My comedowns I’m scared to face
I’ve peirced my skin again lord
No one cares… for me
My soul belongs to the dealer
He keeps my mind as well
I play the part of the leacher
No one cares… for me
Cares for me
Look out joe I’m fallen
I can’t unfold my arms
I’ve got one foot in the grave yard
No one cares… for me
Cares for me
Cares for me
Signed D.C”

I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars and moons are all about

Am I Wrong

Heaven (The Psychedelic Furs song)

In a stroll down memory lane earlier this week, the Editor over at The Sentinel and I watched a 1995 classic that he somehow missed when it was released over a decade ago. Watching ‘Angus‘ all these years later was a ferocious reminder that over a decade has passed since I first related to the good at science, fair at football” leading role of Angus Bethune. Face to face with the significant amount of time that has passed since those early, angst-fueled years of High School, it seems as if that the big 3-O is just around the corner, peaking out at me and counting down.

There’s too much
That I keep to myself
And I turn my back on my faith
It’s like glass
When we break
I wish no one in my place

Love Spit Love was an alternative rock band, founded by singer Richard Fortus following the initial disbanding of the Psychedelic Furs in 1992. Fortus formed Love Spit Love with Richard and Tim Butler.  The band laid low throughout the late 90’s, following a small acoustic tour in ’06, and announcing their undefined hiatus in 2000.

When The Psychedelic Furs reformed in 2000, Fortus joined the group as second guitarist and can be heard on the live album ‘Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live‘.

Now a member of Guns N’ Roses, Fortus plays both rhythm and lead guitar, replacing Axl Rose‘s childhood friend Paul Tobias.

So, as far as Love Spit Love is concerned… ‘Goodbye, Lay the Blame on Luck.’  I’m really glad we met in ’95.

Fun Fact via 10 Neatest Lego Facts.

LEGO’s Humble Beginnings

Humble Beginnings:  The LEGO toy empire got started in 1932 when Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter, almost went bankrupt. During a depression, he had lost so much carpentry business that he started making wooden toys and selling them from his workshop. Two years later, he named his company LEGO (from Danish words “leg godt” meaning “play well”. Incidentally, lego also means “I put together” in Latin.)

Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello – “I Want You”

One of the most talented and emotionally driven female recording artists and exception lyricist, Fiona Apple. In this clip, the natural talent in melancholy melodies with strong interludes of almost angered expression, are recognizable even in her very first composition. A gift that was seemingly existing in the artist even before her fingers met their first instrument.

The Lovin’ Spoonful’s Summer in the City 1966

“Gettin’ Dirt and Gritty’

Summer in the City

The Lovin’ Spoonful

1966

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirt and gritty
Been down, isn’t it a pity
Doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it’ll be alright

And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the days can’t be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I’m wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop

Please do enjoy this 1966 little ditty by The Lovin’ Spoonful, written by Mark Sebastian (brother of John Sebastian) and Steve Boone. Hit single of the ‘66 release of album, Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful. The song reached the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100 on August 13, 1966.

Interestingly and awesome enough, probably one of the reasons I used to love this song when my Dad would play it while we cleaned the car…

This song was intentionally recorded with a background series of car horns, during the instrumental bridge, starting with a Volkswagen Beetle horn, and ending up with a jackhammer sound, in order to give the impressions of the sounds of ‘the summer in the city.’

This little ditty ranks at a proud number 393 on Rolling Stones list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time!
