Marilyn Monroe in Memories, Quotes and Cover Shoots

This quote is among my personal top five belonging to the legendary icon, Marilyn Monroe. 50 years have passed since the tragic death of this timeless beauty, each year exposing new discoveries on the history and struggles endured by the tortured soul of this American icon.

American fashion, beauty and feminine evolution based publications have been, and will continue to offer significant memorable mentions and vintage collections of Marilyn Monroe, captured in images that translate the life, love and legend that was left behind. Features of Marilyn Monroe have been sprouting up across the web, television and in plans for printing!

The June 2012 issue of Vanity Fair magazine will feature a flawless capture of Marilyn Monroe. This issue will be the fourth time since her passing that Vanity Fair pays publication homage to Marilyn with a commemorative cover in her honor.

Liz Smith, ‘Marilyn Monroe–Vanity Fair’s Favorite Cover Girl!’

Over the past four years, Marilyn Monroe–who is dead, you must understand–has been on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine three times! The latest cover shows a radiantly fresh-faced Marilyn, still a model, photographed by Andre de Dienes. It’s amazing, the hold that this woman–gone almost 50 years–still has on the world.

The VF story inside deals with MM’s famous nude pool scene, from her last, uncompleted movie, “Something’s Got To Give,” photographed by Lawrence Schiller.

Vanity Fair on the Marilyn Monroe commemorative June 2012 issue…

“just before Marilyn Monroe’s shocking death, in 1962, photographer Lawrence Schiller hit the jackpot, capturing the world’s most famous blonde at her most seductive.”

To put it bluntly, I seem to have a whole superstructure with no foundation. But I’m working on the foundation.- Marilyn Monroe

Forever For Her (Is Over for Me)

“I blew it..

And if I knew what to do, then I’d do it
But the point that I have, I’ll get to it

And forever for her is over for me

Forever, just the word that she said that means never
To be with another together
And with the weight of a feather it tore into me

Then I knew it
All the work that it took to get through it
On the wings of a feather that flew it
Fell onto my shoe it cut up into me”

Am I Wrong

Heaven (The Psychedelic Furs song)

In a stroll down memory lane earlier this week, the Editor over at The Sentinel and I watched a 1995 classic that he somehow missed when it was released over a decade ago. Watching ‘Angus‘ all these years later was a ferocious reminder that over a decade has passed since I first related to the good at science, fair at football” leading role of Angus Bethune. Face to face with the significant amount of time that has passed since those early, angst-fueled years of High School, it seems as if that the big 3-O is just around the corner, peaking out at me and counting down.

There’s too much
That I keep to myself
And I turn my back on my faith
It’s like glass
When we break
I wish no one in my place

Love Spit Love was an alternative rock band, founded by singer Richard Fortus following the initial disbanding of the Psychedelic Furs in 1992. Fortus formed Love Spit Love with Richard and Tim Butler.  The band laid low throughout the late 90’s, following a small acoustic tour in ’06, and announcing their undefined hiatus in 2000.

When The Psychedelic Furs reformed in 2000, Fortus joined the group as second guitarist and can be heard on the live album ‘Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live‘.

Now a member of Guns N’ Roses, Fortus plays both rhythm and lead guitar, replacing Axl Rose‘s childhood friend Paul Tobias.

So, as far as Love Spit Love is concerned… ‘Goodbye, Lay the Blame on Luck.’  I’m really glad we met in ’95.

Although it feels as if someone is pressuring you to accept more responsibilities now, you’re willing to say yes if you think your involvement will help.

However, don’t overlook your own needs just so you can take care of others.

Consider what makes the most sense for you, too. You won’t have anything left over to give if you exhaust yourself emotionally, so establish healthy boundaries before contributing to the group process.

The Longest Time

A Little Ditty Circa 1984

To be forever chronicled in The Dusk ‘Till Dawn Diary Division

“If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write
What else could I do
I’m so inspired by you
That hasn’t happened for the longest time

Once I thought my innocence was gone
Now I know that happiness goes on
That’s where you found me
When you put your arms around me
I haven’t been there for the longest time”

Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello – “I Want You”

One of the most talented and emotionally driven female recording artists and exception lyricist, Fiona Apple. In this clip, the natural talent in melancholy melodies with strong interludes of almost angered expression, are recognizable even in her very first composition. A gift that was seemingly existing in the artist even before her fingers met their first instrument.
