SILVA VS BELFORT

Las Vegas, Nevada Mandalay Bay Events Center

Held on Saturday Feb 05, 2011

Unfortunately, I missed the Anderson Silva kick and chin combo that took Belfort out of the competition in the first round. I did happen to discover a new favorite fighter though, who appears to be an instant fan favorite to most MMA enthusiasts. I can certainly see why, too.

Following the killer second-round submission win by Jon Jones against Ryan Bader, who received his first career loss last night, the UFC community seems to be absolutely smitten with the fighter who holds only the nickname, “Bones.”

Joe Rogan informed a victorious Jon Jones during his post-fight interview that the would-be contender for the light heavyweight championship against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC Event 128, Rashad Evans, had injured his knee and would be taken off  the fight card.

Rogan formally presented a genuinely surprised Jones with an invitation to fight  Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 for the light-heavyweight championship, after which he sat on his knees in a thankful silence before shaking Shogun’s hand as he entered the Octagon.

“I have a pretty darn good clue what I’m getting into, and I’m excited about it,” Jones said.
